Haunted Houses and Creepy Castles

There can be few areas of Britain which do not have a structure with a ghostly tale or local legend attached to it. The North East of England is no exception. Ghost stories, legends and ancient superstitions abound in this area, particularly in rural Northumberland. Many of these stories relate to old buildings and ruined castles.

The following are presented as a taste of some of the tales which have become associated with the region's structural heritage. They are published as entertaining summaries of popular local legends and stories, not as factual accounts.
